This piece of evidence is two mind maps I made for my Principles of Teaching and Learning class. Both these mind maps are a visual representation of my learning, speaking directly to the core competencies. For these mind maps, I used 22 x 28 inch white poster boards for the background and glued the pictures on.
Insights Gained
Throughout this process, I have learned how to connect everything I have done and seen so far in my embedded practicum. These mind maps are a visual representation of my thoughts around practicum and they have helped me connect things I never thought could be connected. In this process, I have also gained some deeper insight on ways to make effective mind maps.
Connection to Teaching Practice
Mind maps are a great tool to use to brainstorm ideas for unit planning and lesson planning. It is important to know how to make an effective mind map because it can be used for so many things and it is a good thing to teach students as well. This artifact demonstrates my role as an educator in developing and refining my personal philosophies of education, teaching and learning that are informed by theory and practice.

This piece of evidence is a Professional Development Day that I attended in my fourth year at the end of my practicum at Frank J. Ney Elementary School. Caroline Morrison came in to teach the staff about teaching art using watercolours specifically. We took part in three activities: creating a watercolour palate, creating a watercolour bookmark, and creating a watercolour piece of art. In addition to doing the activities, we received instructions on how to do these activities, and others, in our classrooms.

I had never thought of myself as a very "artsy" person and I was always a little worried about teaching art so this workshop allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone and try something new. I have now gained more confidence and experience in art and will be more willing try it again in the future.
Connection to Teaching Practice
This workshop was very enlightening to me about the endless possibilities of art activities you can do with your students in the classroom. I now have new activities in my teacher toolbox that I can use in my classroom one day. I have gained more confidence in teaching art in the future. This artifact demonstrates my engagement in professional development and reflective practice as well as my determination to engage in career-long learning.
